On Friday 22 July 2022 the Association held a leadership meeting at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Japan in Ebisu, Tokyo, at which founding president Jiang Feng handed over the presidency to Weng Daokui. At the same meeting the Association signed a strategic cooperation letter of intent (MOU) with BYD, one of Shenzhen's flagship companies, marking a strong start for the new leadership. Because of the seventh wave of COVID-19 in Japan, attendance was limited; just over 40 people attended, including heads of Chinese companies in Japan, Chinese and Japanese business leaders and representatives of Chinese chambers of commerce.
Four years in review
The meeting opened with a video looking back on the Association's history, followed by remarks from founding president Jiang Feng. He reported that the Association had run the Japan round of the China Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition five years in a row, sending more than 500 projects to Shenzhen; they won 43 awards, and more than ten projects set up in Shenzhen. He thanked members for their long support. It was also noted that, as Executive Vice President, Weng Daokui had helped four Japanese companies from different industries list in Qianhai, Shenzhen. Tian Changhao, Chief Representative of the Shenzhen Economic and Trade Office in Japan, who was then in China, sent a video message.

Weng Daokui received his letter of appointment and the Association's plaque from Jiang Feng and gave an inaugural address. Mr Weng helped found the Association as a vice president in 2018. A Chinese-qualified lawyer, he is a partner at Vbest Law Office handling international matters. He then presented letters of appointment to the new officers:
- Honorary President: Jiang Feng

Letter of intent with BYD
On behalf of the Association, President Weng signed the letter of intent with Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division and President of BYD Japan. Mr Liu described the launch of BYD's Japanese auto business and new models held in Tokyo the previous day, and the Association agreed a purchase intention for ten BYD new-energy vehicles. Through cooperation with this Shenzhen-born global company, the Association aims to give concrete form to economic, trade and cultural exchange between Japan and Shenzhen.
Congratulations and priorities
The Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Shenzhen Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese sent congratulatory letters. They praised the Association for uniting many groups and playing an important role in Japan-China friendship, and encouraged it to keep telling the stories of Shenzhen and China and to widen Shenzhen–Japan exchange.
President Weng has set as a priority helping Japanese companies with valuable technology but no successors to raise funds in China, including through listing on the Qianhai Equity Exchange Center in Shenzhen and in Hong Kong.
